DJI & NLEs: Edit DJI Phantom 4 4k videos in Premiere Pro CC

DJI Phantom is an amazing invention, it can take people’s sight to anywhere in the sky. Most people want to edit DJI Phantom 4 4K videos in Premiere Pro CC or other video editing applications after flying it. However, they always find Premiere Pro CC doesn’t work fine with DJI Phantom 4K videos.

I'm on a nice, shiney new iMac - i7, fastest, baddest, 5k res monitor, etc. Quick hard drives, even tried the internal and a SSD, but DJI Phantom 4 4k video is very slow in Premiere Pro CC. Runs doggy though I can view it in 'Preview' or the finder with no issues - even two or more streams of 4k plays fine, just not in Premiere Pro. Anyone have any ideas? I've tried both .mp4 and .mov file types, the same outcome. In Premiere Pro, it tends to play about 5 seconds of video just fine, then starts breaking. Also, is there a benefit of one file type over another (.mp4 or .mov)?

The DJI Phantom 4 professional captured 4K video in MP4 or MOV(up to 4096×2160 24 / 25p, 60 Mbps, with MPEG-4 AVC / H.264 codec) format, which is not a native editing codec for Premiere Pro. Adobe Premiere Pro CC can handle 4K files without much problem, but it is extremely hardware intensive. In addition, the DJI Phantom 4 4K video footage compressed with MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 will still have big file size, it will take a lot of time for Premiere to render those 4K videos.

To solve those problems, the quick workaround is to convert DJI Phantom 4 4K MP4/MOV to Premiere Pro CC natively supported formats MPEG-2 in 2K resolution. Pavtube HD Video Converter for Mac (review) is now providing the most reliable and professional 4K solutions to all format issues including 4K XAVC/XAVC S4K MP44K MTS4K MXFand more.
